Next step in the double-track expansion between Maria station and Helsingborg C
Trafikverket is moving forward with the planned double-track expansion between Maria station and Helsingborg C after the consultation period has ended. Submitted comments will now be reviewed and used in the planning process.
Detailed description
Trafikverket is moving forward with the planning of the possible double-track expansion between Maria station and Helsingborg C. The consultation period ended on 19 June, and the next step is to compile the comments and statements that were submitted.
During the consultation period, Trafikverket held both physical meetings at Helsingborg C and digital consultation sessions in chat format. In total, Trafikverket received 150 comments and statements. These will now be reviewed and used as input in the continued planning process.
The project is part of the work related to the Västkustbanan railway and concerns future rail capacity through central Helsingborg. Trafikverket is still evaluating several alternative routes for the double-track railway, and the project remains at an early planning stage.
The submitted comments will be addressed in a consultation report that Trafikverket plans to publish during the autumn. Consultation documents and information material remain available for those who want to review the project background.
The next major step in the process will be the second consultation, planned for autumn 2027. At that stage, the remaining alternatives, their effects and consequences, and Trafikverket’s preferred alternative are expected to be presented. The expected impact during the construction phase will also be described.
For the construction and infrastructure sector, the project is relevant because future railway expansions can create demand for technical studies, design work, ground and civil engineering works, and coordination with existing urban environments and traffic flows.
